Maskey welcomes Lower Ormeau 'Alleygating' scheme

Published: 28 November, 2008

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has welcomed the news that the green light has been given to an alleygating scheme for the Lower Ormeau area.

The South Belfast MLA said,

"For two years we have been working along with the local community and community representatives to have this scheme implemented.

"Local residents have raised the need for such gates as a way to help combat burglaries and anti-social behaviour in the area, as well as the dumping of rubbish in the alleys, and for the scheme to be finally getting the green light will be a relief for many and a victory for the local community".

He concluded,

"Similar alleygating schemes have been extremely successful and highly popular in other parts of Belfast and I believe this scheme will also be highly successful".
