South and East Belfast Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Maskey and Parker to meet Regional Development Minister

Published: 26 January, 2009

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey and Balmoral representative Vincent Parker will today, Monday 16th January, hold a meeting with Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy MP to discuss, and receive an update on, a number of issues relevant to the South Belfast constituency.

Alex Maskey MLA said,

"Last year Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy and senior DRD officials visited the South Belfast constituency, at my request, to assess first-hand a number of issues that I had raised with him.

"Since the visit we have saw the completion of traffic lights at Primrose Hill, the completion of the road safety work which was being carried out on Finaghy Road South and the completion of the work which was being carried out on the bridge at Finaghy Road North.

"We will be hoping to build upon the work which has been carried out since Conor Murphy's visit last year. This will include discussing how to ease traffic congestion throughout the South Belfast area, being appraised of plans to role out Residents-Only Parking schemes to other parts of South Belfast, as well as issues of landscaping around the new bridge at Finaghy Road North.

He concluded,

"During his visit last year, Conor Murphy met with a number of residents and residents groups as well as seeing first-hand the issues which I had raised with him. The success on issues such as having the traffic lights installed at Primrose Hill and completing the Road Safety work on Finaghy Road South are to be welcomed. The initiation of Residents-Only Parking schemes which took the views and concerns of residents is also to be warmly welcomed. We must, however, continue to build on these successes and this is what our meeting will focus on". CRÍOCH
