South and East Belfast Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Ó Donnghaile responds to SDLP's Alasdair McDonnell

Published: 1 September, 2009

Responding to today's comments from the SDLP's Alasdair McDonnell in relation to the East Belfast area, East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó Donnghaile said,

"Alasdair McDonnell clearly has no comprehension of the situation in this area and the events which occurred both last night, and in the preceding weeks.

"We in Sinn Féin, rather than issue statements pontificating to the people of East Belfast like Alasdair McDonnell is fond of doing, have been working hard on the ground for a number of years to try and tackle the ongoing problem of anti-social behaviour at the interfaces.

"We continually work with community workers from the Unionist community as well as the PSNI to try and tackle this issue. This work is ongoing, and will continue into the future.

He concluded,

"Alasdair and his colleagues in the SDLP would be better described as the invisible men, they have yet to be seen in this area. They would do better to work constructively on the ground rather than attempting to score political points by issuing baseless statements."
