Maskey calls for Upper Ormeau traffic-calming

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has called for traffic-calming measures to be installed in the streets running between the Ormeau and Ravenhill Roads.
The issue had been highlighted by residents in the area during a recent canvass carried out by Sinn Féin to gauge the issues most important to residents and was also one of the issues discussed during a meeting Alex held with representatives of the Ulidia Residents Association last week.
The South Belfast MLA said,
"The need for traffic-calming measures on the busy, and often crowded, streets that run between the Ormeau and Ravenhill Roads had been raised with our Party by residents during a recent canvass carried out in the area.
"Last week I met with members of the Ulidia Residents Association and this issue ranked highly among the issues raised by them during the meeting.
"These narrow residential streets are often used as a 'rat-run' by drivers cutting between the Ormeau and Ravenhill Roads and already a number of accidents have occurred.
"I would echo the calls made by local residents for traffic-calming measures to be installed and I intent to contact the Roads Service and the Minister Conor Murphy MP to raise the issue and explore what options may be available to help tackle these problems in this area." CRÍOCH
