Belfast City Council must meet obligations in relation to Woodlands Playing Fields

Published: 21 September, 2009

Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Vincent Parker has said that Belfast City Council must do more to meet their obligations in relation to tackling anti-social behaviour at Woodlands Playing Fields.

Vincent Parker said,

"In April we met with residents who live around Woodlands Playing Fields, representatives of the GAA, Belfast City Council and the PSNI. This meeting was about pulling all of those who have a responsibility to deal with this issue of anti-social behaviour in the Playing Fields together to tackle this problem in conjunction with the residents of the area.

"At this meeting a number of commitments were made by Belfast City Council, the GAA and the PSNI. Since this meeting by and large, there had been an improvement in the situation. However, residents are telling me that over the past number of weeks there has been an increase in young people drinking in the Playing Fields and that the gates are being left unlocked at night.

"The failure to lock the gate runs contrary to what Belfast City Council agreed to do at our meeting in April. They were locking the gate during the Summer months and this saw a reduction in anti-social behaviour in the area. I would call upon Belfast City Council to meet their obligations in this regard."
