Look out for elderly and vulnerable over the holiday periodPublished: 20 December, 2009
Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Vincent Parker has appealed to the people of South Belfast to pay special attention to elderly neighbours and the vulnerable over the holiday period.
Vincent Parker said, "Christmas and the New Year period is a great family time but it can also be a lonely one for elderly people who are perhaps on their own or find it hard to get about.
"Then there are people who are very vulnerable for a whole raft of reasons and, for them, Christmas is far from enjoyable. The economic downturn has obviously affected many people and left them in a difficult position at this time of the year.
"I would therefore appeal to people to do the small neighbourly things that make a difference. We all know that a little time and a small task can make a big difference to people who fear the loneliness of the holiday period.
"There will be people who do these things all year round but I would ask that a special effort is made as we move to the festive season." CRÍOCH |
