Alex Maskey MLA said, "The PSNI have confirmed that in South Belfast, in recent times, they have successfully carried out 12 drugs seizures and arrested 11 people in the are resulting in drugs worth an excess of £10,000 being taken off the streets.
"We have been working with the local community and community representatives, as well as the PSNI, to tackle this issue and I would encourage the local community to continue to work with the PSNI in this regard.
"The reality is that these drugs are dangerous. People have been hospitalised, and there have been fatalities as a result of the use of 'Blues'. People who take these drugs are gambling with their lives, and those who sell them are playing with people's lives."
He concluded, "We have, in recent weeks, leafleted the Lower Ormeau area to keep residents up to date with the work being done on this issue. We will continue to work with residents, community representatives and the PSNI in order to tackle those who are poisoning our communities with these drugs." CRÍOCH |
