Parker urges residents to make their voices heard on future of PRONI sitePublished: 27 February, 2010
Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Vincent Parker has urged residents in the area surrounding the PRONI site on Balmoral Avenue to ensure that their views are heard in relation to the future of the site. Vincent Parker was speaking as Sinn Féin leafleted the area, canvassing local opinion on the issue.
Vincent Parker said, "At the end of January I attended a public meeting at the PRONI offices on Balmoral Avenue which was held to facilitate an initial discussion between residents and officials from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) on the draft plans for the future of the PRONI site.
"However, I have since been informed by DCAL that they are not progressing with the scheme and plans as was put forward at this meeting.
"I have been in contact with DCAL and they have informed me that they will take into consideration the views raised by residents during the future development of this scheme.
"Sinn Féin have therefore leafleted the area urging residents to make their views on the future of the PRONI site known to us so that we can ensure that these views inform the representations that we will be making to DCAL in relation to any new draft plans in relation to the site. The reality is that any draft plans must go through a consultation process, but we have an opportunity now to shape the plan as it develops." CRÍOCH |
