Sinn Féin Spokesperson on the Review of Public Administration, South Belfast MLA Alex Maskey has said that a strong legal framework on equality, power-sharing and democratic accountability for the structures that arise from the Review of Public Administration will be at the top of the agenda when a Sinn Féin delegation meet with British direct rule Minster Jeff Rooker tomorrow, Monday 27th February, at 3pm at Stormont for an update on progress across a broad range of issues. Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has today praised community groups from across Belfast for delivering 'exemplary peace and reconcilation work.'
Ms de Brún made her comments as she hosted a PEACE III seminar for community organisations at the Wellington Park Hotel in South Belfast. The event was chaired by South Belfast MLA Alex Maskey and was addressed by Seamus McAleavey, Chief Executive of NICVA. Read full article

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey, speaking after an arms find in Burmah Street, has said that people in the area are worried about what these weapons were going to be used for given that most weapons finds in the past in this area have been attributed to unionist death squads. He also said that the find highlights the need for the DUP to set an example to their fellow unionists by working with nationalists to get the Assembly and Executive up and running. Read full article

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey has urged the Planning Service to be pro-active in helping tackle racism in the South Belfast area by ensuring that the proposed Chinese community centre on the Ormeau Road does not fall victim to bureaucracy. Alex Maskey was speaking after it was revealed that the Chinese Welfare Association (CWA) fears that the application to build the centre may be rejected by the Planning Service. Read full article

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey has called on the DSD to come clean over its car park deal with a land owner in Joy Street. This deal would allow the car park to be used solely by the management of the DSD, and prevents the development of the social housing in the area. This again highlights the facts that the owners of the site and the DSD are putting their own personal interests before the needs of the people on the local housing waiting list. Read full article

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey has said that the situation regarding families affected by the flooding in the Lower Ormeau area almost three months ago is still totally unacceptable, saying, "While the public and Ministerial attention to the Flooding in the Lower Ormeau area has died down, residents living in the area are still faced with a situation where 25 houses are still severally damaged, 11 of which are uninhabitable, and only around half of these houses are due to finished by mid-march".
