Maskey urges Lower Ormeau 'Alley-gates'

Published: 27 April, 2006

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has urged that the provision of 'Alley-Gates' be part of the Arterial Routes scheme which will see Belfast City Council spend over £100,000 on improving the Lower Ormeau Road and surrounding area.

Cllr. Maskey MLA said,

" The Arterial Routes Scheme will, undoubtedly, see many benefits for the Lower Ormeau area.

" It has been my experience, when discussing this issue with residents of the area, that the provision of 'alley-gates' is high on the agenda. In recent times there have been a number of break-ins in the area, and many residents area also concerned about the amount of rubbish which is being dumped at the top the entry's".

He concluded,

" The provision of 'Alley-Gates' would go a long way to improving public safety generally, but will help in specific cases such as anti-social behaviour, and public health issues such as the dumping of rubbish".
