MASKEY HOPEFUL ON STRANMILLIS TRAFFIC CALMING

Published: 20 April, 2006

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey has said that he is hopeful that traffic calming measures can be put in place in the Stranmillis area, making the area safer for those who live in it.

Cllr. Maskey MLA said,

" Over the past number of years I have been in contact with local residents individually, and as part of the Residents group, in the Stranmillis area. One of the main issues which has been raised with myself is the issue of traffic calming. The volume of traffic in this area has increased greatly over the years and this has been exacerbated by the large number of driving schools using the area when giving lessons to learners.

" This increased traffic volume has caused great concern to local residents, particularly those with children. I have, therefore, continued to lobby the DoE on the issue of traffic calming and after my most recent contact with them I understand that formal proposals will by put, by the DoE, to their head office in the near future.

" I am, therefore, very hopeful that this scheme will get the go-ahead, making the area safer for those who live in it".
