No Warm Homes in South Belfast

Published: 22 April, 2006

Balmoral Sinn Fein Representative Stiofan Long has urged people to avail of the 'Warm Homes' scheme after report highlighted that South Belfast has the lowest uptake rate of the scheme.

Mr Long Said

" Within the South Belfast area there are many vulnerable sections of the community. Not least of these are our elderly. The issue of fuel poverty is an increasing issue and the British Labour government are heaping more and more stealth taxes upon us.

" With this in mind I was disappointed to read that South Belfast has the lowest uptake rate of the 'Warm Homes' scheme in the North.

" This scheme particularly applies to those who own their own homes or rent it from a private landlord, or are on benefits and are OAP's, disabled, have children under 16 or are pregnant. I would encourage people to find out if they are eligible by phoning 0800 181 667".
