Bank ruling vindicates Consumer Council 'super complaint'

East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has said that the Competition Commission's final judgement on the personal current account market in the Six Counties is a landmark ruling.


Mr Ó Donnghaile also paid tribute to the work of the Consumer Council.


Mr Ó Donnghaile said,

"This landmark ruling vindicates the stance of the Consumer Council. It is a victory for every bank customer and I also particularly welcome the indication that this will benefit not just people here in this part of Ireland but also bank customers in the rest of Ireland and in Britain.


"For too long the ordinary man or woman in the street has been at the mercy of the bank and particularly here has had to suffer from banking practice that leaves them out of pocket.


"This ruling is binding and people will hopefully see the impact very quickly.


"This is a testament to the tenacity of the Consumer Council and their determination to get a fair deal for the customer." CRÍOCH
