Ó Donnghaile takes Post Box case to Postwatch and Postcomm

Published: 23 May, 2007

East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has written to Post Office regulating and watchdog bodies, Postcomm and Postwatch, to make the case for the need for Post Box facilities which are accessible to the people of the Short Strand area.

Mr Ó Donnghaile said,

"I was extremely disappointed at the decision taken by the Post Office to refuse to re-install postal facilities which would be accessible to the people of the Short Strand. The review carried out by the Post Office was inadequate and failed to take into account a number of important factors.

"I have contacted the Post Office to express my disappointment at the decision taken by the Post Office and have also written to both Postcomm and Postwatch, which act as the regulator and watchdog for the Post Office, in order to highlight our case.

"The Short Strand area for too long has been deprived of essential services. This is a situation which we are intent on rectifying".
