Maskey welcomes move to increase size of bottle-banks

Published: 3 September, 2007

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has welcomed moves by Belfast City Council officials to replace the recycling bottle-banks used at Stranmillis Roundabout, Mary Peters and Lady Dixon Park with larger bottle-banks. This move comes after Sinn Féin raised the issue of overspill at the Stranmillis site.

The South Belfast MLA said,

"A number of months ago I raised with council officials the large overspill of bottles at the bottle-bank beside the Stranmillis roundabout. Not only was this unsightly but such a large volume of bottles left lying around also presented a danger to the public.

"As I have said previously, the fact that these recycling amenities are being used so heavily is to be welcomed and highlights how environmentally conscious the people of South Belfast are.

"I would welcome the moves by Belfast City Council to increase the size of the recycling bins at these sites and would urge the people of South Belfast to continue to use them".
