Hope's for Finaghy flag-free zone expressed

Published: 5 September, 2007

Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Stiofan Long has welcomed the removal of flags from the Finaghy Crossroads area and has expressed his hope that this will be the last year that flags are erected in this area.

Mr Long said,

"For several years now the number of flags, and the duration that they are erected for, has been significantly reduced. We have welcomed this as a small step in the right direction from the unionist community.

"It is our hope that next year no flags will be erected and that Finaghy will become a flag free zone, and a neutral environment where everyone can live free from the sectarian tensions which these flags generate".
