South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has backed the Electoral Office's efforts to make registering to vote more accessible to ethnic minorities by providing electoral registration forms in a number of languages. The South Belfast MLA also announced that the South Belfast Sinn Féin office will be providing electoral registration forms in Cantonese, Polish and Mandarin; as well as Irish and English.

Alex Maskey MLA said,

"I would commend the work being done by the Electoral Office so far in reaching out to ethnic minorities. While the Electoral Office has the prime responsibility for this I believe that political parties and community groups have a role to play also.

"With this is mind, our South Belfast constituency office will be making electoral registration forms available in Cantonese, Mandarin and Polish; as well as Irish and English.

"It is crucial that any government must fully represent the people. In order for this to be the case then we must have the fullest participation possible by the people. I would hope that by providing Electoral Registration forms in a number of languages that we will see a greater participation in the electoral process here".
