Long Voices Disappointment at Economy 7 Price Increase

Published: 8 October, 2007

Sinn Féin Representative for Balmoral Stiofan Long has said the latest increase in electricity prices will place an extra burden on many consumers as they enter the winter months and will add to the rising fuel poverty that affects many homes across the North.

"This latest increase in electricity prices coming at a time of year when we normally see an increase in the price of home heating oil, will place a heavy burden on many families household budgets. This will also undoubtedly add to the ever growing problem of fuel poverty in the North"

"A number of constituents have raised their concerns with me. Indeed some stated that they are very worried that they would be unable to heat their home this winter, which is an intolerable situation to have in 2007"

"The Economy 7 price increase will affect thousands of households' right across the North.

"Being able to heat your home should be a right not a luxury."
