Launch of Edentubber Martyrs 50th Anniversary websitePublished: 16 October, 2007
The 50th Anniversary commemoration of the Edentubber Martyrs will take place this year on Sunday the 11th of November at 2pm. Preparations to recognise this special year have been ongoing for quite some time. The Edentubber Martyrs Commemoration Committee are engaged in preparing a wide variety of events, not only recognising the Edentubber Martyrs - Michael Watters, Oliver Craven, Paul Smith, Patrick Parle and George Keegan, but their families and to their comrades who participated in Operation Harvest, the IRA campaign of 1956 - 1962. The Edentubber Commemoration Committee have now launched the Edentubber Martyrs Fiftieth Anniversary Website. The Edentubber website address is www.edentubber50th.com Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy and Louth Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan officiated at the launch. They were joined by Deputy Mayor of Newry and Mourne Councillor Charlie Casey and Maria Caraher of the Edentubber Martyrs Commemoration Committee. Speaking at the launch Arthur Morgan TD said: "Edentubber is of national importance to Irish Republicans, and I have no doubt that the special events this year will be a huge success. This year's fiftieth anniversary commemoration will continue to remind a new generation of Irish Republicans of the sacrifices and hardships that many endured in our struggle for Irish Unity."
A bus to this years Edentubber march is to be organised by South and East Belfast Sinn Féin Comhairle Ceantair. It will leave from the constituency office at 12pm on the day. Anyone wishing to travel to the commemoration on the bus should contact our office on 02890243194. |
