"Deportation of East Belfast resident wrong"-Maskey MLAPublished: 30 October, 2007
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has expressed grave concern over the deportation of East Belfast resident Aderonke Falode to a draconian and controversial detention centre; Dungavel in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Mr Maskey said, "Aderonke Falode, originally from Nigeria has settled in Belfast with her three children and has played a positive role in the East Belfast community and is an active member of her local church. "Sinn Féin is wholly committed to the rights for all our citizens and my party opposes the use of draconian detention centres for anyone in contravention of international human rights laws. "I am mindful of the successful campaign fought around Lordorice and Imelda Djountsu earlier this year and I shall do my utmost to reverse this decision at the 11th hour for this family. "I shall also be raising this issue directly with Hugh Orde regarding the way innocent women and children are arrested and detained." |
