Executive accused of 'dragging its feet' repairing home of a cancer patient

Alex Maskey has accused the Housing Executive of "dragging its feet" in carrying out essential repairs in the home of Markets cancer patient.

"What started off a simple job to have this man's bathroom sorted out has turned into a nightmare for him," said Mr Maskey.
"This man has enough to contend with with his treatment and his family are at their wits end trying to have him reinstated. He has been forced to stay with his sister as he can't be in the house while the work is ongoing." he said.

"It is totally unacceptable in this day in age that workmen are brought in for a relatively small job and end up taking weeks.

"Despite repeated assurances from the Housing Executive and the contractors, both seem to be dragging their heels on this. We got an assurance only last week that the work would be completed by Saturday last but now it's Tuesday and the workmen show up at almost 11 o'clock in the morning," he added.

The Sinn Féin MLA called on both the Housing Executive and the contractor to complete the job "as soon as possible".
