Ó Donnghaile expresses deep concern at Short Strand drugs find

Sinn Féin's East Belfast Representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has expressed his total disgust after the discovery of what appears to be a bag of cocaine beside the Doyle Youth Club in the Short Strand area.

Ó Donnghaile said,

"This was an absolutely reckless and irresponsible act that clearly shows the lack of consideration that these people have for this community and in particular children within the area. We are very lucky that we aren't dealing with the death of a child here as who knows what may have happened had this substance been discovered by a youngster."

"I want to commend the resident who brought this substance forward to me as soon as they discovered it, from there I immediately contacted the local Short Strand Drug Awareness Group and we handed the package over to members of the PSNI. The growing problem of drug abuse needs to be tackled head-on, that is the wishes of the community and I think tonight's discovery is a very real indication of the potential dangers that exist unless we begin to pro-actively challenge this issue."
