Maskey welcomes drug seizure in Lower Ormeau RoadPublished: 26 November, 2007
23rd November 2007
Alex Maskey, MLA, for South Belfast has welcomed the seizure of cocaine with an estimated value of £125,000 in the River Terrace area of the Lower Ormeau Road.
Mr Maskey said,
"This is the second significant drug find in recent weeks, in South Belfast. I am pleased that the drugs seized in River Terrace, have been taken off our streets, especially, in the light of recent targeting of young people in the area, by drug dealers. Recent media reports of young people being threatened by drug dealers, highlights the problem that we all face in our communities."
The PSNI response is welcome and long overdue in this area. At a recent meeting between local residents and the PSNI, the drugs issue was high on the agenda, and the community wish to see all drug dealers taken off our streets, whether they be small or big operations. All drug dealers are unacceptable in this community."
"Drugs are a blight on our community. Those who deal in them are parasites."
