Deportation of East Belfast residents wrongPublished: 17 December, 2007
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has expressed grave concern over the imminent deportation of East Belfast residents Aderonke Falode and Comfort Adefowoju and their families to Nigeria. Both families have been held in the Dungavel and Yarl's Wood draconian detention centres. Mr Maskey said, "Aderonke Falode and Comfort Adefowoju and their families, originally from Nigeria has settled in Belfast with their respective children and have both played a positive role in the East Belfast community and are both active in their local church. "Sinn Féin is wholly committed to the rights for all our citizens and my party opposes the use of draconian detention centres for anyone in contravention of international human rights laws. "I am mindful of the successful campaign fought around Lordorice and Imelda Djountsu earlier this year and I shall do my utmost to reverse this decision at the 11th hour for these families. "Sinn Féin shall attend Wednesday's protest at Stormont to highlight this case and shall contact the Home office on the resident's behalf." |
