PSNI 'dissident' warning

Published: 6 February, 2008

Sinn Féin Policing Board member, Alex Maskey MLA commenting on the PSNI dissident warning in the media has said that these groups have no support and called upon them to end their activities.

He also called for the PSNI response to be measured.

Mr Maskey said:

"These groups should end their activities. They have no support at all. There is no support for armed actions within the nationalist or republican constituency; the vast, vast majority of people are in support of Sinn Féin's strategy.

"I also want to call for any PSNI response to be measured and as non disruptive as possible.

"There are genuine concerns that some of these organisations have been infiltrated and are being exploited by elements within the British agencies. The case of Paddy Murray is the most recent example of this. The case has been raised by Sinn Féin with both governments and the PSNI." ENDS
