Gerry Adams wishes Fidel Castro well in his retirement

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams today wished Cuban leader Fidel Castro well in his retirement. Mr Adams who has in the past visited Cuba and met with Fidel Castro was speaking after the Cuban Revolutionary leader announced his intention not to seek re-election to the Cuban Presidency.

Mr Adams said:

"Fidel Castro has led the Cuban people for almost 50 years. His announcement today that he will retire marks the end of an era in Cuban and Latin American politics.

"He leaves behind him a country with world class health and education systems and I wish him well in his retirement." ENDS
