Ó Donnghaile raises traffic calming in Short Strand with Conor Murphy

Published: 23 September, 2008

Sinn Féin's East Belfast Representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has today raised the issue of traffic calming in the Short Strand area of East Belfast with Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy MP MLA.

Speaking after discussing the matter with the Minister, Niall Ó Donnghaile had this to say,

"The recommendations put forward by myself are very apt, given that today Sinn Féin has put forward a motion in the Assembly calling for a 20mph speed limit to be introduced outside of schools across the North of Ireland.

I stressed with Conor Murphy the very real need for some form of traffic calming measures in the vicinity of

Seaforde Street

and

Vulcan Street

, particularly given its proximity to St Matthews Primary and Nursery schools and also given the fact that very recently a young boy was hit by a car while out playing in the street.

I look forward to the Minister's response and continued engagement with him on this issue."
